I honestly can't grasp the mindset of someone who RMTs PoE. If I wanted to pay to win (with or without the devs' blessing), I'd have played/paid something else. Equally, I failed to play Path of Exile for free because GGG were a lot more subtle about it, BUT I never once thought of the money I threw at them as potential RMT fuel. You know exactly what they're doing which technically means it's an easier trap to avoid. I can and do play Diablo Immortal for free, truly, with no temptation to buy into the game's utterly disgusting pay to win facet, because as you put it, at least Blizzard are being 'clear from the start'. But for what it's worth, I see advantages and disadvantages to both. I just see them as fundamentally different. ![]() But you've thrown in the word 'better', which is subjective and I've carefully avoided taking a stance in that regard. There's a level of brazenness to what Blizzard have done that GGG wouldn't think to attempt, ever. ![]() I maintain that yeah, they're that different. ![]() Or, at least, to mimic someone else's to some greater or lesser degree of accuracy. But I suspect for GGG, they're the same thing: you trade for the gear you need to develop your own technique, ideally. I'm not sure what you mean by PWT mechanics (P2W?), but in my experience, absolutely the economy is more important to GGG than gameplay that encourages players to develop their own techniques.
